Featured Artist: Rama Hughes

I've started making zines again. My series of "Quip" is up and rolling again at issues 5-7 which are available if you contact me for them. In issue 7, I wrote about my current favorite artist, Rama Hughes. I'll attach a link to his portfolio a little later.

Zine printing has saved me from Pre-Calculus. I rarely pay attention anymore and I get by using wit. Last quiz I drew a comic strip called "Everardo and the Jumping Bean". I can't wait to see what Mr. Sanders writes. After all, he told us never to leave our paper blank.

I have been out of school for 3 days because of my diagnosis of influenza (<-- FANCY). I thought that it would be an ideal time to catch up on drawing but I ended up sleeping for hours at a time. The flu is no fun.

I felt like I should catch up on blogging. Hopefully the weather will improve so we can hit up the Castro. Wizard of Oz is playing. Sing-along version. WORD.

Paper Birds

A couple of weeks ago, I sat down (while watching Titanic for the first time. So good) and worked on this drawing. The background is a splotch wash with watercolors and white tempera paint on the non-glossy side of photo paper. Yeah... I was out of thick paper. I use watercolors with my little bottle of watered-down white tempera for a lot of my projects. The envelope I modeled mine after is really cool! I found in my stationary box. It's from Egypt -note the hieroglyphics- from when my mom was a kid. I'm assuming she got it when she lived in Africa, but I could be wrong. We have a bunch of random foreign stuff like that on our house. Also an important fact: I ruined one of my Prismacolor markers on this thing. I will miss my 10% Warm Grey for a long time to come:(
This picture is kind of an ode to Erin's letter-writing. I miss California like crazy and I'm dying to go back. Being able to write to Erin has actually made me feel much better, like people haven't quite forgotten me yet. In the least cheesy way possible, it kind of feels like part of me gets to be in the Bay Area too. Like little paper-bird-me's. So thanks, Erin.

Starting MoleSkins

My brother got me three MoleSkin Notebooks for Christmas. They intimidate me so much, but I found a Tumblr that is inspiring and comforting.

Where's everyone's posts? I miss you guys.

Here's a link as well. Excuse the vulgarity. http://fuckyeahmoleskines.tumblr.com/
